Avaya Spaces Collaboration App, Currently Offered Free To Schools, Leveraged Across Avaya’s Global Workforce to Support COVID-19 Response

Avaya Spaces video collaboration traffic has increased more than 500 percent as organizations shift to remote operations

Santa Clara, Calif. – March 20, 2020 – With governments, schools and businesses of all sizes continuing to look for ways to address the impacts of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, Avaya Holdings Corp. (NYSE:AVYA) is powering its global COVID-19 response efforts with Avaya Spaces, and providing significant resources to enable more organizations globally to adapt to a world that is mandating new ways to engage.

Avaya Spaces is a cloud meeting and team collaboration app that enables people and organizations to connect and collaborate remotely with video, meetings, content sharing and more. The company has made the collaboration app available at no charge to educational institutions and nonprofit organizations worldwide through August 31, 2020.

Avaya’s extensive efforts to support its COVID-19 response requires internal and external collaboration, globally, on a 24 x 7 basis.  In addition, Avaya’s workforce has increasingly transitioned to working remotely for the safety of its employees, contractors, partners and clients. The Avaya Spaces offering has been critically important in empowering the necessary, rapid reliance on virtual, cloud-based communications.

Avaya CEO Jim Chirico said, “Communication and collaboration solutions are important during business as usual, but absolutely mission critical during times of crisis. In addition to the support we are providing to global organizations through our complementary software offerings, Avaya Spaces is being used across every element of our business to support rapid response to COVID-19 related projects.”

Avaya Spaces provides users all the critical meeting and team collaboration features needed, including voice and video conferencing. Since January, Avaya has seen an increase of more than 500% in video collaboration traffic on the Avaya Spaces platform. And in the past week alone, several hundred universities, schools and other organizations worldwide have engaged Avaya to gain the connectivity and collaboration capabilities Avaya Spaces provides as they address the challenges of this pandemic.

Charter College International High School in Johannesburg, South Africa is one of many schools that has transitioned to online learning. “Our first priority is the safety of our students. During a global pandemic, our goal is to provide continuity of their classes while ensuring we’re following the most up-to-date health advice from government bodies. Avaya Spaces enables us to achieve this,” said Alison Dodge, Principal at Charter College International High School. “We join a growing number of educational institutions worldwide who have had to cancel in-person classes, but we’ve worked extremely quickly to move lessons online and ensure that our students are still being provided with a top education.”

In quick response to the Egyptian government’s decision to close schools and universities for two weeks, Orange Egypt, the leading provider of integrated telecommunications services and Avaya partnered to enable all educational institutions in the country to implement remote learning initiatives. Hisham Mahran, Vice President of Orange Egypt for the corporate sector said, “It is clear that technology plays a pivotal role in our day to day lives and is an especially valuable tool in such challenging times. Our partnership with Avaya is another testament to Orange Egypt’s commitment to supporting the digital transformation of key sectors in the country. The solution that we are jointly offering enables educational institutions to maintain the safety of students as their top priority, while ensuring minimum disruption to their education.”
