Avaya to Accelerate Collaborative Cloud with New Turnkey Solutions Featuring EMC, VMware Technologies

For Immediate Release:27 Aug 2012

  • Avaya Collaboration Pods, a new portfolio of cloud-ready, turnkey solutions will simplify installation and operations of real-time applications
  • New solutions give customers a fast, easy path to the cloud without having to worry about the infrastructure
VMWORLD 2012, SAN FRANCISCO (August 27, 2012) – Avaya today announced a new portfolio of cloud-ready, turnkey solutions to help customers accelerate deployments of Avaya Collaborative Cloud™ solutions. The new portfolio, codenamed Avaya Collaboration Pods, will leverage key components from Avaya, EMC and VMware to simplify and streamline the installation and ongoing operations of real-time communications and collaboration environments.

The Avaya Collaborative Cloud is an innovative framework that enables businesses, organizations and partners to use, build, deliver and enhance communication and collaboration solutions in the cloud.

Based on solutions from Avaya, EMC and VMware, the Avaya Collaboration Pods will deliver virtualized storage, computing and networking that are finely tuned for the unique performance requirements of collaboration and other real-time applications such as VDI. The solutions will include storage arrays from EMC, VMware vCenter™ and VMware View® from VMware, and networking, management, communications applications and integration from Avaya. They will also feature fully-integrated management, orchestration and technical support, enabling enterprises to use a common interface to manage all of the pod components—from the application to the network devices.

Avaya Collaboration Pods will be available in several packaged configurations to support a range of business needs. Each package will also include the Avaya Virtual Services Platform (VSP) 7000, an energy and space-efficient top-of-rack Ethernet switching platform built to support fabric-based virtualized services and lossless environments. A series of networking enhancements for the VSP 7000, announced separately today, will deliver new levels of performance for data center applications and reduce deployment time for new cloud-based applications.

Avaya Collaboration Pods will also enable faster time to revenue for smaller cloud providers that want to streamline delivery of high-value Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) or Communications as a Service (CaaS).

“The rise of BYOD makes it difficult for the College to provide students and faculty with a consistent experience across our network. By delivering everything we need in a pre-tested, pre-configured bundle, Avaya’s VDI Pod will help us accelerate the roll-out of virtual desktops to our users. It is a solution that will give end users the benefits of a consistent desktop experience, while allowing us to simplify desktop management, reduce our costs, and secure our infrastructure.”

“Avaya’s Collaboration Pods is a simple way for us to deliver high performance collaboration services over a fully integrated virtualized solution, without having to design, integrate and test our own infrastructure. Avaya VAS will allow our partners to offer high-value, revenue generating services such as mobility and collaboration to their enterprise customers, and provide us with all-in-one solution that is ready out-of-the-box.”
—Mike Ballard, CEO, Cobalt Data Centers
“Converged systems are being looked at favorably as the foundation for next-gen data centers, providing turnkey solutions that enable cloud-based applications to be deployed faster and managed more easily. Avaya's focus on delivering communications and collaboration applications via its Collaboration Pods, which include storage and virtualization components from EMC and VMware, provide a differentiated offering, especially for the mid-market.”
—Rohit Mehra, director of Enterprise Communications Infrastructure, IDC

“Avaya Collaboration Pods are a trend of things to come, with bundled applications, compute, networks and storage integrated with management for rapid deployment and ease of operations. They allow enterprises to more rapidly deploy real-time applications within their data centers and include a comprehensive management suite that lets customers ‘see’ all the elements of the solution. This helps keep the operational environment simple and lets enterprises monitor the health of their converged infrastructure in real time.”
