Vice President, Segment Leadership Groups
David Gudmundson serves as vice president, Segment Leadership Groups (SLGs). In this role, he is responsible for advancing the SLGs’ (Enterprise, Commercial and Government) impact across the business and ensuring tight ties between the SLG go-to-market strategy and overarching corporate strategy.

Gudmundson ensures that strategic plans are translated into cross-functional initiatives and allocates resources for all SLG priorities. Applying a holistic approach, Gudmundson focuses on accelerating innovation, shortening time-to-decisions and improving time-to-market.

Gudmundson comes to Avaya with more than 30 years of experience in senior management positions at leading technology companies spanning the networking, optics, solar equipment and government and defense sectors.

Over the course of his career, he has managed a range of businesses with more than $2 billion in annual revenues, and acquired and integrated more than a dozen companies. He has successfully led organizations at Cisco, JDS Uniphase and Greenvolts.

At Cisco, Gudmundson was a Group Vice President and General Manager, where he led multiple business units. He spearheaded the company’s entry into the broadband marketplace, developed and launched its first major software-only network security product, and pioneered multiple merger and acquisition efforts.

At JDS Uniphase, he played a critical role in identifying and executing a number of acquisitions, as well as a corporate restructuring that helped JDS Uniphase become a profitable portfolio company. He also served as the President of the JDSU Optical Communications portfolio company, significantly expanding the profitability and revenue growth of that operation.

Gudmundson holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri and an MBA from San Jose State University. He sits in the Santa Clara, Calif. headquarters. Outside of the office, he enjoys snowboarding, martial arts and scuba diving.
