DAUNIS ADOPTS AVAYA TECHNOLOGY AND UPGRADES ITS COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS
Daunis Llorenç i Cortada founded the company in 1855, originally as a boiler workshop. Since then it has adapted to serve the demand for products and services required by the industry, becoming a leading supplier to the industry, providing pumps, valves, pipes, pipe connections, air conditioning, air compressors etc. Now run by the fifth generation of owners, it can claim to be among the twenty oldest companies in Spain.
It currently has a total surface area of 9,500 square meters, spread over three outlets, a central warehouse, workshops, offices and other facilities that are distributed between Sabadell and Terrassa.
Although the offices are connected by a Telefónica MacroLAN, they had significant limitations in fulfilling the commercial and technical requirements of employees. “Offices were interconnected by IP sub-addressing, which filtered what data was moved from one site to another, limiting some of the options we needed, such as caller ID. It was a big problem because we didn’t know who was calling us,” explains Sergi Lozano, head of Information Technology and Communications at Daunis.
In search of a robust connectivity project, Sergi Lozano drew on the advice and expertise of telecommunications partner Electrotel.
“Making the change did cost money at first, but our communications had shortcomings that we had to resolve no matter what. Seeking a project that would meet our needs, we tested different integrators, and finally it was Electrotel that far exceeded all tests. We chose them because of the solution presented (telephones, aerials, network electronics etc.), as well as the additional cost savings.” Lozano also highlights the simplicity of the implemented solution. “It’s incredible, we went from having a multitude of lines and numbers, which was a mess in terms of configurations, to having only three telephone lines and fiber optics for the whole company.”
He also notes that, advantageously, the Avaya switchboard functions as a calendar: “This allows me to configure forwarding, advance phone messages for holidays and any other planned programming. Before, I had to go to the office on public holidays to make the necessary changes.”
With a Cost Reduction
These advantages also include the cost savings IP Office has achieved for Daunis. The offices have been connected with Avaya’s VoIP technology, providing service to approximately 70 users. This means that the numerous calls between workers in different offices become internal calls, regardless of where they are located, thus significantly reducing the cost of management and communication and simplifying all maintenance. Lozano puts the savings in fixed telephony and communications at approximately 35% per month, highlighting the contribution the implementation of the integrated electronic fax has made to these savings - they have gone from 5 physical faxes to 6 electronic faxes. “This has led to a significant reduction in spending on paper, management, maintenance.” he states. He also emphasizes the help Electrotel gave them in negotiations with Movistar for the renewal of phones and associated fees. “We found a good ally in Electrotel, who helped us reduce our use of mobile telephony by 20%. Combined with the savings in fixed telephony, we are talking about an overall saving of over 50%.” In addition to IP Office 500 v2, IP9600 phones have been deployed to replace the old Alcatel IP 100 megabyte terminals.
In addition to providing speed, these GigE telephones use between 40% and 60% less energy than other phones in their class and do not require a separate Ethernet jack for PCs, helping to reduce costs and maintain the bandwidth needed by computers.
“With the old solution we had significant bottlenecks - there was no point having PCs, cabling or switches of one gigabyte if in the end the telephones were only 100 megabytes,” explains Lozano.
“In general, the entire Avaya solution has brought huge benefits, for example, having worker user licenses for all users, so that anyone who has a PC and a telephone can have their extension on screen, which is crucial for managing customers or power user licenses that allow you to send messages from PC to mobile,” he continues.
At the same time, Daunis has also installed 14 phones with the Avaya DECT IP system and two aerials - with eight channels - at each site covering the entire space. The DECT 3720 Handset model used is especially designed for industrial and office environments, and offers voice communications with a high degree of quality and safety through a dedicated encrypted wireless network. “We need mobility between offices and warehouses, previously we had coverage problems in some areas,” he says.

The voice project was completed with the renovation of the data structure in all offices as well, with the Avaya RoutingSwitch PWR+ Ethernet network equipment of the 4000 series. This series of switches provides high-performance, flexible Ethernet connectivity to the cabling room and end-of-network deployments. Among the improvements in the network, Lozano highlights the segmentation of the network, separating voice and data on different networks for better quality of service.
“We had problems with network traffic, some computers were left without power because data packets were all on the same network. This summer was the first where everyone was able to work normally, without incident. In fact, in other years I would receive up to 12 calls about problems or conflicts on the network during my vacation.” In addition, VoiceNetworking machines have been connected to ensure constant continuity of service.
Daunis has also made use of the Avaya Office SupportServices (IPOSS) 8x5 NBD service, which guarantees remote support and free software updates. In short, Daunis will benefit from upgrading to the new version of IP Office 9.1 at no extra cost, thanks to this contracted service. Finally, Lozano wants to emphasize the peace of mind and confidence that Daunis has in Electrotel’s staff. “We’re really relaxed, we feel we are in good hands and they are always ready to help us and provide us with the best service.”

This trial is for Your internal review only, and You may not offer the Hosted Services to any End User or other party during the Trial Period. Upon expiration of the 90 day trial period or any extension thereof, You shall cease use of the Hosted Services, return all software to Avaya, and irretrievably delete all software from your systems. Upon request, a duly authorized representative of Trial Customer will certify such destruction to Avaya. Avaya may share such certification with applicable suppliers whose software is part of the Hosted Services.
Avaya provides the Hosted Services "AS IS" for non-production use only without any warranties, express or implied, and without any promise to enter into a definitive agreement with You for the purchase or license of the Hosted Services. Use of the Hosted Services is at Your own risk, and You understand and agree that if the Hosted Services do not operate as expected, or if Avaya so chooses, Avaya reserves the right to end the Hosted Services trial without liability to Avaya. Either party, without any liability to the other, may terminate this trial early.
AVAYA DISCLAIMS ALL EXPRESS, STATUTORY, IMPLIED OR OTHER WARRANTIES, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, ANY WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NONINFRINGEMENT.

IN NO EVENT SHALL AVAYA'S OR ITS SUPPLIERâS TOTAL LIABILITY TO TRIAL CUSTOMER IN CONNECTION WITH, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THIS TRIAL AGREEMENT OR THE HOSTED SERVICES EXCEED FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($500). THE PARTIES AGREE THAT THE LIMITATIONS SPECIFIED IN THIS SECTION WILL APPLY EVEN IF ANY LIMITED REMEDY PROVIDED IN THIS TRIAL AGREEMENT IS FOUND TO HAVE FAILED OF ITS ESSENTIAL PURPOSE.
FOR PURPOSES OF THIS TRIAL: (i) THE HOSTED SERVICES ARE NOT A TELECOMMUNICATIONS SERVICE; (ii) THE HOSTED SERVICES MAY NOT BE CONNECTED TO THE PUBLIC TELEPHONE NETWORK; (iii) THE TRIAL CUSTOMER MAY NOT USE CONFIDENTIAL, PERSONAL, PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE, PRIVATE, OR PERSONAL HEALTH INFORMATION WHEN USING THE HOSTED SERVICES; (iv) THE HOSTED SERVICES MAY NOT BE USED FOR ANY HIGH RISK ACTIVITIES; AND, (v) TRIAL CUSTOMER ACKNOWLEDGES AND UNDERSTANDS THAT THE HOSTED SERVICES ARE NOT INTENDED TO SUPPORT OR CARRY EMERGENCY CALLS OR COMMUNICATIONS OF ANY NATURE TO ANY TYPE OF EMERGENCY SERVICES OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING 911 AND E911 SERVICE OR SUCH SIMILAR SERVICES WHICH MAY BE LIMITED OR UNAVAILABLE. Avaya and its suppliers reserve and retain all right, title, and interest in the Avaya Hosted Services, trial or otherwise. You must maintain the confidentiality of any information Avaya provides regarding the Hosted Services and any conversations Avaya has or other information Avaya exchanges about the Hosted Services, including Your feedback and comments ("Confidential Information"). This Trial Agreement constitute the entire understanding between You and Avaya with respect to the subject matter herein and will supersede all previous and contemporaneous communications, representations or understandings, either oral or written, relating to that subject matter. There are no third party beneficiaries to this Trial Agreement. This Trial Agreement will be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California. If there are any disputes arising under or related to this Trial Agreement, You agree to submit disputes to the jurisdiction of, and venue in, the California state and federal (Northern District of California) courts. The parties confirm that it is their wish that this Trial Agreement, as well as all other documents relating hereto, including all notices, have been and shall be drawn up in the English language only.
