Avaya Signs Strategic Partnership with MICROSENS to Take Control of Smart Building Technology

Gigabit micro-switching technology gives Avaya a critical advantage in smart-building environments

Guildford, UK; 2016: Avaya, a global leader in business communications software, systems and services, is set to address the huge market potential for smart-building design after signing a strategic partnership with switching and IP specialist MICROSENS, a subsidiary of the euromicron group.

The agreement combines Avaya’s market-leading SDN Fabric Networking infrastructure with MICROSENS’ smart Gigabit Ethernet micro-switching technology. The result is a smart, scalable and highly- functional way to control buildings to ensure maximum energy and cost savings.

The partnership with MICROSENS forms a key part of Avaya’s ecosystem that aims to deliver better outcomes its customers in their smart, digital transformation strategies. Initially showcasing at the Avaya Technology Forum in Dublin on May 11^th, the combined MICROSENS-Avaya Fabric solution will be available from mid-May across the EMEA region.

MICROSENS’ Gigabit micro switches connect to Avaya’s network through an existing IP-network, eliminating the need for extensive re-cabling or extensive infrastructure changes. The smart switches control lighting, heating, or access systems using a choice of wired and wireless connections and standards to manipulate all aspects of the built environment – powering a room down when empty, or up depending on the number of occupants, for instance. They also operate communications systems, access controls, blinds or even room bookings, depending on the requirements of the user.

Analysts forecast the global smart building market will grow from $7.2bn in 2015 to more than $37bn in 2020 as companies seek efficiency savings through ‘smart’ building initiatives.

Combining Avaya’s Software Defined Networking (SDN) Fabric Networking capability with MICROSENS’ switching capabilities provides quick, flexible routing and networking for customers with smart-building requirements.
