Avaya Supports the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship

Sponsors annual holiday tournament and enables more connected fan experience via wireless technology at the Bell Centre - an Avaya ‘Always On Stadium’

Markham, Ontario – December 20, 2016 – For millions of Canadian hockey fans, the IIHF has become a holiday tradition. This year Avaya will be prominent among the enthusiasts as both a sponsor of the event and provider of wireless, fan engagement technology covering the Bell Centre, one of two venues hosting the tournament.

For Avaya Canada, the company’s sponsorship is driven by its passion for hockey and the ability to lend its fan engagement technology to promote positive hockey experiences. The sponsorship includes several elements that will be visible in both of the two host venues, including the Bell Centre in Montreal and the Air Canada Center in Toronto.

Fans attending the Bell Centre in particular will also find a number of accommodations facilitated by Avaya Networking that can make their experience more enjoyable. An Avaya “Always On Stadium,” the Bell Centre has deployed more than 500 wireless access points for ‘Olympic[1]’-quality coverage to connect personal, mobile devices anywhere in the venue. Fans can experience such features as ‘ticketless’ entry, food ordering and delivery from their seats via a custom app built for the Montreal Canadiens, learn more about the team and players, view online stadium maps, and purchase tickets for upcoming games. 

The Bell Centre attracts over a million visitors a year and is the site for hundreds of events annually, including home games for the local NHL team, the Montreal Canadiens. The 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship starts in Toronto on Dec. 26 and wraps up with the gold medal game in Montreal on Jan. 5.
