SMS app built on the Zang platform wins Durham College students 1st prize in the SCTS Maker Challenge
Santa Clara, Calif. - November 23, 2016 — Zang today announced that its all-in-one cloud communications platform and applications-as-a-service, Zang Cloud, helped bring home first place honors to students from Ontario’s Durham College in the Society of Communication Technology Consultants (SCTS) Maker Challenge. The students won the competition, which was between student teams from Ontario colleges, by creating an application that connects active directory users to Zang Cloud accounts through SMS.
Hosted by the Canadian Regional Group of the Society of Communication Technology Consultants (SCTS), the Maker Challenge was created to help students become better aware of the jobs and opportunities available in the unified communications space. Three teams comprised of students from Durham and Centennial Colleges were given access to a vendor’s technical engineer, SDK/API, and a test environment in order to develop an application, extension, or enhancement of that vendor’s unified communications-as-a-service (UCaaS) offering. The teams were then given two weeks to develop their ideas, and then on November 17th, presented and demonstrated their ideas to a panel of judges.
While three different vendors were involved with the Maker Challenge, the Zang team from Durham College claimed first prize for their SMS app, winning over the judges with the idea that you could be sitting on a tropical beach without data, but still communicate with your servers through text messages. The application the students created is available globally in 58 countries.
