President and Chief Executive Officer
Jim Chirico is President and Chief Executive Officer of Avaya, Inc., which enables the mission critical, real-time communication applications of the world’s most important operations. He assumed his new role on October 1, 2017, after previously serving as Chief Operating Officer and Global Sales Leader.
Jim brings depth of experience and consistent results as a business and operational leader in the technology industry, successfully leading teams in sales, worldwide operations, manufacturing and development. Since joining Avaya in 2008, he has been instrumental in the development of the company’s industry-leading business model, including record EBITDA performance, gross margin expansion and best-in-class Net Promoter Score.
In his previous role as COO, Jim was responsible for Global Sales, Global Operations, Human Resources and Quality. Jim optimized Avaya’s global business processes, stabilized sales and has led the company’s effort for Chapter 11 Emergence. In addition, he drove cross-functional alignment of key initiatives, including integration of all acquisitions and enterprise restructuring efforts.
Jim joined Avaya in January 2008 from Seagate Technology, where he was Executive Vice President, Global Operations, Development and Manufacturing. At Seagate, he led a team of more than 50,000 employees located in 14 facilities worldwide, successfully driving step-function change in the operational effectiveness of the organization.
Jim began his career at IBM in 1980, progressing through line leadership and corporate assignment positions to become a Site General Manager and WW Manufacturing Leader. He received a B.S. in Marketing from Providence College in Rhode Island.Download Jim Chirico Photo >
Dino Di Palma
President America Sales & Global Accounts
Dino Di Palma, President, America Sales & Global Accounts is responsible for direct, channel and partner sales in the US, Canada, and Latin America. He also has responsibility for the company’s go to market strategy across the entire portfolio of cloud and premise based software and hardware solutions serving enterprise, government agencies, channel partners, SIs, SPs and small and medium businesses.
Dino Di Palma joined Avaya in May 2018. Dino was Chief Revenue Officer at Broadsoft prior to joining Avaya. In his position as CRO Dino was responsible for global sales, operations, professional services and partner initiatives Broadsoft was acquired by Cisco late 2017 for $1.9B. Prior to joining BroadSoft, Di Palma was the Chief Executive Officer of Benu Networks.
Earlier in his career, Dino was the Chief Operating Officer of Acme Packet, which was acquired in 2013 by Oracle for $2.1 billion. In that role, he oversaw Acme Packet’s global sales and business development, customer service and support, and manufacturing organizations. Prior to serving as COO, Dino served as Acme Packet’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales & Business Development.

President, Avaya International
Nidal Abou-Ltaif is President for Avaya International, where he is responsible for a combined operational region that covers Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and the Asia-Pacific. Under his leadership, the Avaya International region has become a model for excellence in execution, achieving record customer satisfaction measures.
Nidal joined Avaya in 2003 as the sales leader for the Middle East. Nidal has a proven record of success at Avaya, maintaining business continuity when the company acquired Nortel, and successfully integrating operations in the Middle East, Africa and Turkey. In 2014, he was tasked with leading Avaya’s Global Growth Markets and promoted in 2015 to head the Asia-Pacific, Middle East & Africa (AMEA) operation, subsequently adding responsibility for Europe to his remit.

President of Avaya Services
Ed Nalbandian is the President of Avaya Services. He is responsible for the strategy, delivery and sales support of Avaya’s global services business, which supports over 30,000 clients with a team of over 4,000 people.
Ed is returning to Avaya after serving as CEO of SPS, an Avaya business partner which was recently acquired by ConvergeOne. He previously ran Avaya’s managed services business from 2008 to 2014, where he oversaw a 200% increase in revenue and laid the foundation for Avaya’s private cloud business.
Ed was the founder and CEO of AimNet Solutions from 2000 to 2006, a managed and professional services company, which grew to became a leading independent Managed Services Provider (MSP). Cognizant acquired AimNet in 2006, and Ed became head of their Infrastructure Services business.
Ed also previously ran AT&T’s managed services business and started his career with IBM, spending 13 years in their services business.

Senior Vice President, Solutions & Technology
Chris McGugan is Senior Vice President of Solutions & Technology at Avaya, leading technology strategy development to guide future investments. His focus is on assessing customer needs, market trends and how new and emerging technologies can drive value and improved customer experience as part of the digital transformation in communications that Avaya is leading.
In an industry undergoing a massive transformation, Chris is ensuring Avaya moves swiftly to deliver game-changing innovation to customers, and provides a path that enables customers to readily adopt new digital communications technologies and capabilities that optimize business performance.
With more than 25 years of experience in communications technology, Chris is a proven leader who brings a wealth of contact center, cloud and IoT expertise to Avaya. Most recently, he served as an operating executive with a major retailer, where he built out cloud and IoT operations to support strategic initiatives. In a previous tenure with Avaya, Chris was Vice President of Emerging Products and Technology, and of Contact Center Solutions and Marketing. He has also held executive and management positions at Belkin, Cisco and Motorola/Symbol Technologies, in addition to several board advisory positions at technology companies around the globe.Download Chris McGugan Photo >
Senior Vice President, Corporate Strategy and Development
Nikos Nikolopoulos is Senior Vice President, Corporate Strategy and Development. His responsibilities also include mergers and acquisitions.
He joins Avaya from Mednax, Inc., a healthcare company where he served as head of business transformation and chief M&A counsel. He previously worked for Avaya as chief restructuring officer from 2013-2015.
Nikos brings more than 25 years’ experience in corporate strategy, business operations, turnarounds, commercial transactions, and mergers and acquisitions, primarily in the telecom and communications sectors. His career includes executive roles at AT&T and Tyco as well as at two start-ups in Europe. He also has experience outside the communications sector, serving as head of strategy and corporate development for Office Depot, Inc.
Nikos started his career working for the European Commission on telecom matters in Brussels and has lived and worked in six different countries during his career. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire and a Juris Doctorate in Law from the Chicago Kent College of Law.

Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Patrick O’Malley is Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. He is responsible for financial governance and management of Avaya's financial operations, including overall responsibility for the Controller’s organization, financial planning, Treasury, Tax and investor relations.
Pat joined Avaya following a 30-year career with Seagate Technology, where he served in a variety of roles, including as CFO from 2008 to 2015. During his career at Seagate, he played an integral role in helping the company with its re-listing on the NASDAQ after two years of private ownership, and with the restructuring of its debt following the 2008 financial crisis.
Prior to that, he was Senior Vice President Finance and Treasurer, and also served as Senior Vice President, Consumer Electronics Business Development, and Senior Vice President of Finance for Manufacturing Operations.
Prior to joining Seagate, Pat spent four years as a Senior Staff Accountant for Arthur Young & Co.

Senior Vice President, Innovation
Laurent Philonenko is the Senior Vice President, Innovation leading the development and incubation of disruptive innovations such as artificial intelligence, mobility and security.
In an industry with constant progression and transformation, Laurent focuses on the evolution of disruptive technologies and where Avaya can invest and bring unique solutions to market. Within his role, he leads the Avaya Innovation Incubator, an organization established in June 2018 to foster the development of solutions that have a large disruptive potential and potentially lead to new revenue streams for Avaya. The Avaya Innovation Incubator draws on input from customers, partners, internal development and an ecosystem to foster promising start-ups and entrepreneurs.
Previously, Laurent held executive positions at Avaya as SVP/GM, Solutions and Technology, and SVP of Corporate Strategy & Development and Chief Technology Officer.
With more than 30 years of experience, Laurent is a recognized leader and proven visionary in the enterprise collaboration and communications space. Prior to joining Avaya, he served successively as Vice President and General Manager of several business units and as Chief Technology Officer for Cisco’s Collaboration Technology Group. Before joining Cisco, he was President and CEO for Genesys Telecommunications. In his tenure at Genesys, he also held the roles of Chief Technical Officer and Chief Operations Officer.
Laurent is a graduate of Ecole Polytechnique in Paris and earned a master’s degree in Management Science from Paris University. He holds 20 U.S. patents or applications. In his spare time, Laurent is an avid sportsman who enjoys running and biking. His other hobbies include practicing his culinary skills, flying airplanes and reading on a variety of topics.
Senior Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel
Shefali Shah is Senior Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel. She is responsible for Avaya’s worldwide law department and global human resources organization.
Shefali joined Avaya from Era Group, one of the largest helicopter operators in the world, where she served as SVP, general counsel, and corporate secretary. She facilitated Era’s transition to an independent public company and managed its legal, human resources benefits and corporate communications functions.
Previously, Ms. Shah held several senior management roles, including senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary, with Comverse Technology, Inc., which developed and marketed telecommunications software. She began her legal career as a corporate associate for each of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP and Hutchins, Wheeler & Dittmar, P.C.
