Happy Pride Month! Avaya Welcomes New LGBTQIA+ Employee Resource Group
Something we embrace at Avaya is the importance of diversity, individuality, and inclusivity. This philosophy is core to our products and services, which are designed to bring workforces together while respecting the fact that people choose (or need to) get work done in uniquely different ways. Whoever you are, wherever you are, and whatever you need to get done, our technology enables you to be you and bring out the best in what you do. This makes teams stronger together as a result.
LGBTQIA+ Employee Resource Group
But this is not enough. It’s our responsibility to continually raise the bar on how Avaya can create a more diverse and inclusive work environment that celebrates the individual. The diversity of our employees is what strengthens our brand most. This year, Avaya is excited to announce that we’re kicking off Pride Month with the launch of an all-new LGBTQIA+ employee resource group. This employee-led group will help to foster a more diverse, inclusive workplace aligned with Avaya’s organizational mission, values, goals, business practices, and objectives.
Our employee resource groups were created to enrich the brand, culture, and employee experience by supporting personal and professional development for our diverse workforce. These employee-led groups come together to organize, strategize, innovate, and push the culture forward.
There’s no better time than Pride Month to introduce this employee resource group. Pride began to be recognized in the United States to commemorate the anniversary of the Stonewall riots, which occurred in New York City in June 1969. Every year since Pride events are held throughout this month to recognize the impact of that event 52 years ago and the impact LGBTQIA+ people have had in the world.
At its core, Pride Month celebrates individuality, diversity, and inclusivity. It reflects core values that we should all get behind: normalizing and instilling confidence in who we are, exactly as we are; breaking stereotypes; and recognizing all of us for the valuable contributions we bring. It celebrates all those things that make us stronger as individuals, which collectively fuels the businesses we work for.
Pride is a time for us to reflect on the progress we’ve made toward LGBTQIA+ equality, but it is also a time for us to acknowledge that we still have much work to do. I am proud of this significant step we have taken for our employees, both as a gay man and an employee at Avaya. It opens the door for more resource groups, enabling employees to create a sense of connection and belonging and feel proud of where they work.
We take pride in being a people-first company, which our employee resource groups demonstrate. Throughout Pride Month we’ll be sharing more content about our LGBTQIA+ employee resource group, stay tuned!
