A Defining Moment in My Career

2020 has been an unprecedented year. From the global pandemic to natural disasters and remarkable levels of civil demonstrations, the world needs action more than ever.

This year marks Avaya’s 6th Month of Giving. It seems like it was only yesterday when the program started back in 2015 – it was so exciting that Avaya was to dedicate an entire month to join together and do good in the world. Looking back, I couldn’t have imagined all  the remarkable things we’d accomplish in five years. We’ve raised nearly a million dollars; donated 7,000 lbs. of materials such as food, clothing, and supplies; and given thousands of hours to volunteering for charities worldwide.

Although it’s been a tough year, we’re not slowing down. Avaya is doubling our corporate match up to $50,000 to support our long-standing partner, Save the Children. Our donations will fund critical safety improvements at two girls’ schools in Afghanistan – one of which we built last year. This project will provide a safe learning environment for 1,800 female students and teachers and increase student retention rates.

This project is particularly important in Afghanistan because:

  • 3.7 million children are out of school, 60% of whom are girls
  • 76% of girls ages 15+ struggle to read and write
  • Millions of children grow up in high-intensity conflict zones and fear going outside

Here’s a video from the Afghanistan team on how our project is impacting the lives of children every day.

Thank you to our employees who generously give your time, energy, and dollars to communities where it’s needed the most. You are the heart and soul of this program, and we could not make such a tremendous impact without you.

It’s been a privilege to lead Avaya’s Month of Giving Program, and it’s truly one of the defining experiences of my career. I’m proud to work with such a talented and passionate group of individuals who act as a positive light in such uncertain times. I can’t wait to see what we accomplish this year!
