Cloud Wars: Music to Whose Ears?

Cloud Wars: Music to Whose Ears?

If you’re not feeling the Asia-Pacific heat at the moment, then I suggest you look out your window. The top five cloud services providers, native and international, are pushing forward with vast expansion and transformation strategies. In China alone, cloud is growing at 70% year-on-year, compared to the global average of 50%. Singapore, where our customers, partners and industry influencers are gathering for the Experience Avaya event this week, ranks first in Asia-Pacific (APAC) cloud readiness. This is great for transforming businesses, concerning for those that are not ready, and outstanding for Avaya and our customers.

The way we see it – the more the choice there is, the better. Moving to the cloud model that best suits your needs, be it private, public or a combination of the two, should your choice, should address the specific challenges of your business and should enable innovation with speed.  The cloud explosion in APAC relates to application hosting and consumption – removing the old concerns around integration, scalability, and speed. With more cloud providers setting up in various regions of APAC, the competition will heat up, delivering not only more options for businesses to choose from but also better ones.

APAC businesses really are spoiled for choice when it comes to the cloud right now: AWS leads the market with 24% market share, but Alibaba Cloud and others have their own compelling offers – and a number of them are making strong inroads into key markets like digital banking. And let’s not forget that Google just launched Google Cloud in Seoul, with plans to expand into two new cloud regions from Indonesia soon.

At Avaya, we love it. The diversification, expansion, and growth of cloud services in APAC falls right into the heart of our strategy – let’s get UC, CC and everything in between on any cloud services provider, be it Amazon, Google, Tencent, Alibaba and so on. For our customers, that’s a huge advantage and a relief from the chains and limited choice that our competitors rely on. Our commitment to openness continues to win over the hearts and minds of businesses and organizations across APAC.

As we engage with these groups at our annual Experience Avaya APAC event, where we’ll also strategize with our ecosystem partners and customers from the region, I’m certain of how at least one conversation will go. The question will be asked if we’re ready for the region’s amazing ambitions for cloud uptake. The answer will be that we’re not only ready for it; we’re actively encouraging it.
