Avaya Corporate Responsibility Progress As We Celebrate Earth Day 2018
This Sunday is Earth Day, a day in which the global community comes together in the common pursuit to preserve and protect our natural world. This year, the focus for Earth Day is plastics pollution so we connected with a pollution expert, Katherine O’Dea from the organization Save Our Shores (a two-time Avaya Month of Giving winning non-profit group). Watch our interview with Katherine to better understand what all of us can do—individually and collectively–to help the world’s oceans and our earth.
And just in time for #EarthDay2018, we’re introducing our 2017 Avaya Corporate Responsibility Report. I invite you to take a look and see for yourself all the great work our employees, customers and partners are doing to make a lasting difference in the world.
Avaya is a global leader delivering best-in-class communications solutions. Thanks to an expansive portfolio of products and services, we deliver technologies that power the future in a responsible way. The end result: our customers are able to connect, communicate and collaborate without boundaries. Plus, we help them increase their productivity and make their business goals a reality.
I’m proud of the work we’ve done to raise the bar as it relates to sustainability. We’ve been going through massive transformation and through it all we’ve stayed steadfast to Avaya Corporate Responsibility commitments. Take a look at some 2017 highlights.
- We joined “We Are Still In,” a network of 2,500 U.S. leaders that support addressing climate change. We have a tremendous track record of carbon reduction that we’ve publically reported since 2010 and we’re doing our part every day to help the world meet its climate action goals. Last year alone, we had an 18% Scope 1 and 2 carbon emission reduction and a 34% percent reduction since the 2014 baseline, more than doubling our 15% cumulative reduction target.
- We hosted our annual Month of Giving program for the third consecutive year in October 2017, with close to a third of all employees participating in one of many volunteer and fundraising activities. The 2017 report celebrates the two schools in Mozambique that were built from the past two Avaya Silent Auction proceeds.
- And in the safety arena, our U.S. Motor Vehicle Accident Total Incident and Preventable Incident Rates decreased by more than half from 2016 to 2017.
I hope you will join me in celebrating Avaya’s achievements as demonstrated in the annual Avaya Corporate Responsibility Report, and that you’ll find time to accomplish at least one positive action for the environment this Sunday, Earth Day 2018.
