Avaya CMO Morag Lucey introduces the “Smart Digital World”

In a new Avaya video, I chat about our journey into the “Smart Digital World,” and what that means for the customer communications experience. What makes a digital world smart? It isn’t all about the “Internet of Things” (IoT) or having devices that connect to one another. It’s really about what that technology is capable of doing.

Just 10 years ago, we lived in a world of flip phones, and DVD rentals. Accessing Google meant having to sit in front of a computer, and chatting with friends about world events usually happened during planned evenings out!

Now, we have the internet in our hands, video on demand, and the ability to talk to anyone, anywhere almost instantly, all with devices that can fit neatly in one’s pocket.

Our world is getting smaller, and the digital world is moving at a frenetic pace, developing and changing faster than ever before. With today’s technology, opportunities are many and efficiency is prized, and as it evolves, so do the needs of customers. Results are expected in minutes, rather than hours or days and companies must meet these demands.

Today, social media is the language of the land, and with the “Internet of Things” taking the world by storm, there are few things more important to consumers than being and feeling connected to the digital world. With just about everything becoming digitalized—media, commerce, communications—it’s more important than ever for businesses to keep up with the ever-changing demands of customers.

Our idea of the smart digital world is one where students are safe because their schools can be locked down remotely and an intruder quickly identified all while emergency services are immediately and automatically alerted.

It’s the peace of mind for businesses that their office networks are secure because there’s less vulnerability at each endpoint.

It’s the sense of community sports devotees feel from their fan engagement experiences at their favorite stadiums, and the ability to share those feelings and connect with other sports enthusiasts around the globe.
