Overview

For the Data Center

For the campus Technology
Avaya VENA Fabric Connect transforms the Data Center network into a dynamic, self-aware utility. Instead of applications tied to a single server or rack, Fabric Connect enables the seamless transfer of workloads across geographical boundaries. It eliminates complex provisioning models used to support workload mobility, while helping ensure that the network remains free from configuration errors and loops. This architecture synchronizes the network to the compute environment—our tools provision the network while virtual machines migrate between physical servers.

Avaya uses several approaches to address the common challenge of managing data growth. For example, match our active/active multi-pathing access Switch Clustering technology with our highly efficient active/active multi-pathing capability within Fabric Connect, and run them on our Distributed Top-of-Rack, ultra-high-speed, virtual backbone. This solution uniquely mitigates the sub-optimal practice of transiting all rack-to-rack traffic via the Aggregation or Core tier.

At Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City, lead network engineer Randy Paxton supports a complex, dual Data Center network. He says that Avaya’s virtualization capabilities "enable us to significantly reduce the complexity of our network and to spend less time on the configuration of our Core Switches. Moving a DMZ web server from one Data Center to the other will be effortless, requiring no IP Address change or reconfiguration."

Avaya Fabric Connect offers these Data Center benefits:
  • Easily migrate workloads between servers regardless of physical location
  • Deploy a converged Data Center network suitable for storage and other mission-critical traffic types
  • Implement geo-redundancy for critical applications quickly and easily
  • Enable 24x365 network availability, leveraging a zero-touch, autonomic configuration capability across the Core
