Avaya Surpasses Another Networking Milestone

Momentum behind Avaya Fabric Connect continues with more than 10,000 nodes of its SPB-based fabric networking technology in deployment

Santa Clara, Calif. - May 11, 2016 – In preparation for “Network 2020,” the next generation network that addresses today’s network complexities and limitations, Avaya today announced that it has deployed more than 10,000 nodes of its Shortest Path Bridging (SPB)-based[1] fabric networking technology. The 10K milestone was reached as Avaya gains momentum in fabric deployments, with companies and organizations such as Burj Khalifa in Dubai, AccorHotels Stadium in France, Skoda Auto in the Czech Republic, and ProMedica in the U.S.

Avaya Fabric Connect is the foundation for many of today’s smart solutions – Cities, Healthcare, Schools, Venues, etc. – and offers businesses a faster, easier, and more agile path to next-generation networking. Avaya Fabric Connect is bringing customers to Network 2020 with:

•    Increased scalability - When one of the worlds most established auto makers outgrew its existing network, the company turned to Avaya Fabric Connect to provide an infrastructure with flexible topology and simpler configuration for easier deployment of new manufacturing services that helped increased car production.

•    IP Multicast -  Today’s patient monitors and devices demand IP multicast capabilities that traditional networks are not equipped to handle. So, when a non-profit healthcare system evaluated new networking vendors, Fabric Connect’s ability to support IP multicast made the decision simple.

•    Multi-tenancy - With a single network and one IT person to serve 70 schools and more than 20,000 students, Fabric Connect enables a school district in northeastern Montreal to simply and securely segment services and run on the same network without increasing risk or degrading performance.

•    Faster configuration and time-to-service for implementing and upgrading applications - Avaya Fabric Connect has clocked in up to seven times faster than legacy solutions[2] according to actual customer feedback.

•    Millisecond failover - Outages are virtually transparent with failover rates averaging 320 milliseconds, the technology is more than 2,500 faster2 than legacy solutions.

Quotes
“When we first investigated the Fabric Connect story, we thought it sounded too good to be true: there wasn’t any of the traditional complexity, but it promised to deliver all the resiliency we needed. Crucially, the way that it handles multicast was very exciting because we knew that we needed to do something different; business as usual was not an option for ProMedica.”
-Bruce Meyer, Technical Coordinator of Network Engineering at ProMedica

In the digital world, organizations need to be agile to respond to changes in the business environment faster than the competition. Legacy networks are rigid and inflexible and can inhibit a company’s ability to adopt a digital strategy. A fabric architecture gives the right foundation for business agility and end to end IT automation to enable rapid service and application deployments. A fabric is the right type of network architecture today and into the future.
