Chuncheon city launches pilot wireless LAN service at Myungdong Store Chuncheon citizens able to access Internet with laptops and PDAs

The Korean operations of Avaya, a global leader in corporate networking solutions and services as well as an official partner of 2002 FIFA World Cup¢ Korea Japan, announced on December 29 that it launched a pilot wireless LAN service in downtown Chuncheon by introducing Avaya's wireless solution.
Chuncheon city plans to launch a wireless LAN service in an area within a 400m radius of Myungdong Store and 100m radius of Central Underground Store using Avaya Korea's wireless LAN solution. Chuncheon city held an opening ceremony for the pilot service at Myungdong, the downtown area of Chuncheon, and started full-fledged wireless LAN service around the Myungdong shopping area.
The pilot wireless LAN service will be provided until a full-scale wireless Internet service is available to the whole city. The shopkeepers and citizens around the pilot service area can rent PDAs or wireless LAN cards to access the Internet within the service area. Chuncheon city also plans to provide various services based on wireless LAN system, such as VoIP service.
Avaya Korea provided Avaya Wireless AP-2 and wireless bridge for the pilot wireless LAN service area, connecting three buildings within the service area. FNET, Avaya Korea's wireless LAN business partner, installed the wireless LAN equipment.
"Chuncheon city decided to provide wireless LAN service at the center of the city as more and more people have become aware of the convenience of wireless LAN. We will expand the wireless LAN service to the whole city of Chuncheon depending on the outcome of the pilot service," said one city official.
