05 Dec 2000
Avaya (NYSE: AV), the Lucent Technologies spin-off that began trading on the New York Stock Exchange on Oct. 2, today announced the addition of IP video capabilities to its MultiPoint Conferencing Unit (MCU). Release 7.1 of the Avaya MCU offers businesses greater flexibility in holding multi-location video conferences by allowing participants using H.323 Internet Protocol (IP) and H.320 ISDN endpoints to join in the same session.
The new release of Avaya's MCU breaks down existing boundaries in videoconferencing with the ability to simultaneously handle IP and circuit-based standards. This hybrid solution helps enable businesses to protect current investments in videoconferencing endpoints while taking steps towards incorporating IP devices and networking. The MCU can also bridge users in an IP-only or H.320-only videoconference.
The latest MCU is the first IP/ISDN video conferencing solution capable of operating at speeds up to 768 Kbps, and providing the picture quality of H.263, a video algorithm delivering superior performance. Additionally, the MCU 7.1 is the first multipoint conferencing unit capable of adding audio-only users into conferences via both PSTN and Internet telephony.
Users can easily schedule any combination of H.323, H.323/H.320 and H.320 conferences with the MCU™s Conference and Reservation Control System (CRCS). The CRCS WebPak offers simplified conference management via a Web browser and the corporate Intranet.
The Avaya MCU release 7.1 can be configured as an H.323/H.320 converged system, H.320-only system, or H.323-only system, and is available in 12, 64 or 96 participant models. Release 7.1 of the MCU will be generally available in January 2001 in the U.S., Europe, Middle East and Africa, Asia-Pacific, Caribbean Latin America regions and Canada. Customers that purchased IP telephony capability with MCU Release 7.0 can easily add the H.323 IP Video capability with a simple software upgrade. Prices for the MCU release 7.1 start at $19,950.
Avaya will demo the MCU's new IP capabilities at TeleCon 2000 in Anaheim, Calif., from Dec. 6-8 at booth #639. In addition to the MCU and Avaya's iCosm¢ Collaborative Video (iCV). Avaya offers a full suite of conferencing solutions and services, including the Avaya Audio Conferencing System, video endpoints, installation, maintenance and conference management.
