Lucent Technologies Is Presented With Frost & Sullivan Marketing Award for Unified Messenger Product Line Strategy

19 Jun 2000

Lucent Technologies has been chosen as the recipient of the prestigious Frost & Sullivan Market Engineering Award for its product line strategy in the unified messaging market.

Frost & Sullivan, an international market consulting firm headquartered in Silicon Valley, cited Lucent for its "innovative bundling of hardware, software, services and support under a single contract" for service providers that host or manage messaging services.

In 1999, Lucent introduced a service provider messaging solution based on its Unified Messenger(TM) product, which combines voice, fax and e-mail messages on a single messaging system based on the popular Microsoft Exchange system.

Frost & Sullivan's report also pointed to Lucent's www.messenger(TM) product, a Web-based tool introduced in 1999 that enables customers to manage their voice, fax and e-mail messages on the Internet, using the telephone or a computer.

"With this wide portfolio of products, Lucent is able to effectively target a variety of enterprises as well as traditional and emerging service providers. Therefore, in recognition of this strategy, Lucent Technologies receives the product line strategy award," Frost & Sullivan said in its report.

"Lucent is a leader in enterprise and service provider messaging," said Alpa Shah, Research Manager. "Lucent brings together the whole package of messaging hardware, software, service and support, making it much easier for service providers to move into the hot unified messaging market."

The Frost & Sullivan Market Engineering Award for Product Line Strategy is presented each year to the company that has demonstrated the most insight into customer needs and product demands.

According to Frost & Sullivan, "the recipient company has optimized its product line by leveraging products with the various price, performance, and feature points required by the market."

To select the award recipient, the Frost & Sullivan analyst team tracks all end-user requirements and market dynamics within the industry. The process includes interviews with suppliers, end-users, and industry experts. The product lines are compared with customer base demands, and the top ranking supplier is then presented with the award.

About The Products

Unified Messenger for Service Providers combines all voice, e-mail and fax messages into a single mailbox and features a single directory. It integrates with both the telephone and data networks and allows users to access, create and manage all of their messages from a personal computer or telephone, anywhere, at any time. Microsoft Exchange provides the e-mail component for Unified Messenger.

The www.messenger product is Lucent's award-winning, Web-based message management tool. Using leading Web browsers, users can have visual access to their multi-media messages.
