Avaya leaders highlight IT and business benefits of Avaya Aura™ System Platform technology, including rapid installation and simplified management.
An overview of Avaya Aura System Platform Technology What is Avaya Aura System Platform Technology?Jorge Blanco: The Avaya system platform is a new technology that we are introducing this November. It is the combination of state of the art virtualization technology, monitoring tools, as well as deployment and update tools all put in a piece of software completely dedicated to application delivery. It is a complement to Avaya Aura which we announced and released last spring and the rest of the unified communications and contact center portfolio. What are the benefits for the midsize enterprise?Jorge Blanco: our intent and objective has always been to extend the power of Avaya aura to every one of our customers be it midsize or in the larger segments. Linda Dotts: In the research that we’ve seen it shows really that in the VOIP unified communications, they were the second most funded projects within enterprises of this size.Jorge Blanco: That requirement is typically in contrast with their ability to deploy them, support them and obviously manage the footprint, the amount of servers and hardware that is required to do that. Linda Dotts: really to do all this with a lower cost infrastructure and lower IT resources because midsize businesses don’t often have the large IT staffs that big businesses have.Jorge Blanco: The system platform has been designed to actually allow them to balance the two, be able to deploy more applications in a lower footprint to make them easier to manage in a lower footprint, easier to service, easier to support.Steve Hardy: So now midsize businesses have access to capabilities that once were only exclusively for larger size enterprises. Why virtualization?Jorge Blanco: So the Avaya system platform is based on a virtualization layer upon which we’ve combined a series of serviceability tools for doing installation, updating of software, license management as well as real time alarming and monitoring. That combination of technology and software, designed to run in truly an Intel open environment, is what makes up the system platform. It allows us to manage how we are going to implement a number of applications onto an environment and then service and support themSteve Hardy: We’re the first real time communications vendor to provide real time communications on a virtualized platform. What are the benefits for IT?Joe Baxter: the benefit to the IT manager is that the system platform can offer a single platform that can host either one or multiple communication applications.Dan Cardaropoli: Since it is an all in one appliance it reduces the number of servers and the media services gateway reduces the number of gateways and boards that are required over the number in a traditional TDM deployment. The second way that it helps save in the acquisition is with installation costs. Installation costs are reduced up to 75% with a one to two hour window for install of the appliance itself. The third way that it helps to save is really around support expenses, because of the less server footprint, it reduces the need for power and cooling and energy which will reduce their op-ex (sp?) expense up to 75%. Joe Baxter: And it offers a savings in network services through SIP trunks which can reduce network costs up to 75%So what’s the bottom line?Steve Hardy: the bottom line is that Avaya Aura system platform allows a business to save money, reducing footprint, using less servers and simplifying the way that they can deploy unified communications and contact center applications.Jorge Blanco: Avaya has demonstrated very sophisticated technology and next generation unified communications and also recognized that it needs to be delivered in a simple, efficient and effective manner. Look for anyone else that has recognized the intersection of those two and I think you will only find one company and that is Avaya.
