Avaya Sustainability Policy
As a leading global provider of next-generation business collaboration and communications solutions, Avaya is proud to be able to help our customers meet their sustainability commitments as well as continue our journey to become a more environmentally friendly company in our own operations. We have instituted this Sustainability Policy and the related corporate Sustainability Program because there are significant global environmental challenges, and we have a role in working toward collective and effective solutions. Our focus as a company is on delivering measurable results. 
 
We know that corporate sustainability is a journey, an opportunity to further both ambitions and results.  We seek to communicate our experience throughout this journey.

We recognize that we have an opportunity to advance sustainability through the products and solutions that we offer to our customers.
 
Compliance
Compliance within Avaya begins with the numerous product regulations throughout the jurisdictions in which we operate. Avaya's goal is to comply effectively and efficiently with laws and regulations in all jurisdictions where we sell products.
 
Product Operations
Avaya believes that many of our products can be valued customer tools to increase their efficiency and reduce their waste.  Avaya continually evaluates opportunities throughout our products’ lifecycles to minimize waste and maximize efficiency.  Where Avaya deems appropriate, we will implement those changes that we believe will make a difference. It is corporate policy to “integrate environmental, health, and safety considerations into our products and services throughout their life cycle.” [1]

We believe strongly in the transformative ability of communication and collaboration technology to improve organizations and quality of life.  We commit to working within our industry and with our customers to enhance sustainability and help realize the significant opportunities for our technology to meet environmental challenges.
 
Our Operations
Avaya endeavors to move toward a more efficient and sustainable business model. 
 
Efficiency
Avaya seeks to enhance efficiency throughout our business, knowing that both input resources and output waste have direct costs and impacts on the environment. As such, Avaya is committed to reducing its carbon footprint.  This commitment embodies the principle of “protect and conserve our natural resources by minimizing wastes, managing energy use responsibly, and employing pollution prevention principles”as articulated in the Avaya Environmental, Health, and Safety Guiding Principles and Policy. [2]
 
Supply Chain
We recognize that our operations footprint extends beyond our facilities and work to ensure that our environmental dedication travels with our dollars within the supply chain, with a key vehicle for this work being our supplier codes of conduct. [3]
 
Transparency
Finally, we as a company commit to sharing the policies and outcomes that compose our Sustainability Program.  With a number of existing communication tools in place, and a willingness to try new ones as they emerge, we believe it is important to have a two-way dialogue with our key stakeholders, including customers, employees, partners, investors and peer companies.

Governance
 
Environmental Steering Committee
Avaya has formed an Environmental Steering Committee, which is responsible for conceptualizing and monitoring Avaya’s sustainability strategy, policy and mission.  The Environmental Steering Committee brings together senior leaders from across the company, creating a cross-functional team with members from R&D, IT, law, real estate, marketing, government affairs, ethics and compliance, and the Sustainability Business Leader.  The Committee oversees the Avaya-wide environmental compliance by providing supervision, direction, guidance, objectives and targets by:
 
- understanding the environmental horizon and level-setting priorities;
- agreeing on actions plans and receiving escalations;
- communicating and clarifying issues;
- sponsoring and supporting various teams working environmental issues across the business; and
- commissioning new teams and task force initiatives.
 
Green Core Team
The cross-functional Green Core Team (GCT) works under the supervision of the Environmental Steering Committee, and is led by Avaya’s Sustainability Business Leader, who also authors Avaya’s Sustainability blog.  The GCT coordinates the cross functional activities taking place within the various aspects of our company’s operations and activities.  The GCT has identified and prioritized initiatives to generate greener results and takes steps to increase awareness within Avaya.  Furthermore, the team provides regular updates to the Environmental Steering Committee to achieve the visibility and senior leadership endorsement and sponsorship of Avaya‘s company-wide commitment to green.

Avaya‘s effort to track our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions focuses on the collection of electricity, natural gas, and fuel oil utilities consumption data for our owned and our largest leased locations, in which case actual consumption is measured and itemized.

Avaya products have been certified by Miercom- 1) enable enterprises to reduce power consumption; 2) offer environmentally efficient work models; and 3) ongoing improvement in Avaya’s own product design, manufacturing and business operations and Avaya addresses the responsible management of the technology and equipment at the end of its life cycle through utilization of environmentally responsible processes.

link Packaging
Avaya has undertaken a significant effort to streamline packaging and shipping. Many resources are required to move equipment around the globe to our many customers and by streamlining our packaging we hope to significantly reduce the resources required to get our products to our customers timely and safely.
link Product Design and Compliance
At Avaya, we strive to design and manufacture our products to minimize the environmental impact of manufacturing. We should note that Avaya does not directly manufacture equipment, instead we contract the manufacture of our products with reputable contract manufacturers around the globe. One manufacturing objective is to maximize regrind use of virgin recycled material in resins and eliminate the use of extra material. In addition, this process also selects only RoHS compliant material and eliminates secondary processing when applicable, such as paint.
