announced the appointment of John Sharpe to the newly-created role
of sales director for its Converged Systems and Applications
business in Ireland. Sharpe will focus on helping businesses in
Ireland gain the benefits of IP telephony and associated
applications such as contact centres, unified communication and
services. IP telephony can help businesses reduce costs and enhance
productivity through greater functionality and mobility. Sharpe's
appointment is effective immediately. Reporting to Enzo Viscito, head of sales for Avaya's Converged
Systems and Applications business in the UK and Ireland, Sharpe
will lead Avaya's operations in Ireland where he will be
responsible for driving the company's growth in the country as part
of the strategy announced in July 2002. He will develop sales via
direct and indirect channels, working closely with key Avaya
customers and accredited business partners. The creation of the
role underpins Avaya's multi-channel strategy. Enzo Viscito, head of sales for Avaya's Converged Systems and
Applications business in the UK and Ireland said: "John's
experience of broadband and wireless systems as well as the Irish
and international markets makes him ideally suited to this
position. He will be able to help businesses understand, and most
importantly deliver the benefits of converged communication from
reducing cost to gaining competitive advantage." Prior to joining Avaya, Sharpe worked at Broadband Solutions, a
Dublin-based telecommunications consultancy, where he was managing
director from April 2001 until his appointment at Avaya. During
this time he established a business distributing optical wireless
equipment, in addition to providing consultancy services to a
variety of organisations including CIE, Tyco, Alcatel and Galway
County Council. Sharpe has over 18 years telecommunications experience, having
held management and sales roles at: Formus Communications; MCI
Worldcom; Sprint International; Cable and Wireless; GPT
Communications; and Transtel Communications. Sharpe obtained an Honours Diploma in Applied Physics from the
