Avaya Expands Portfolio of Communications Devices with New Internet Protocol (IP), Wireless IP and Digital Telephones

Extensive portfolio features new design, mobility and full access to Avaya MultiVantage voice application software

Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV), a leading global provider of voice and data networks and applications to businesses, today announced the addition of five new products to its extensive portfolio of workplace communications devices, including two new Internet Protocol (IP) telephones, a wireless IP telephony solution, a new digital telephone and accessories. Avaya's expanded portfolio offers companies a wide range of options in communications devices for their workforce, enabling enterprises to provide each employee with the tool that best suits their specific needs or job function.

These new products join the award-winning Enterprise Class Internet Protocol Solutions (ECLIPS) portfolio, which also features the Avaya 4630 IP Screenphone, the Avaya IP Softphone and IP Softphone for Pocket PC, Avaya Softconsole and more. All of the new communications devices provide access to the 500+ features of Avaya MultiVantage Software, Avaya's leading voice application software, which provides reliable voice communications over an IP, a circuit-based or a hybrid network. Avaya's communications devices enable workers to be connected seamlessly to their enterprise network, whether at work, at home or on the road.

The new offers include:

  • The Avaya 4620 IP Telephone This phone features a large screen graphic display with 24 on-screen call appearance/feature buttons that eliminate the need for paper labels, plus an additional fourteen fixed feature buttons. Four keys along the bottom of the display allow one-button access to applications and local options menus such as call log, speed dial directory, a WML Browser (supporting XML language) and other future applications. The Avaya 4620 IP Telephone features a second integrated switched port for a computer connection and an infrared port for integration with PDA and PC applications, such as enabling users to select and dial a name from their PDA directory. The Avaya 4620 IP Telephone is priced at $495 USD List.
  • The Avaya 4602 IP Telephone This is an economically priced model, with two programmable call appearance/feature keys and ten fixed feature buttons. The two line by 24 character display also eliminates the need for paper labels. The Avaya 4602 IP Telephone is ideal for locations where access to basic phone features is desired, such as entry-level staff positions, hallways, lobbies, and other common work areas. The 4602 IP telephone is priced at $195 USD List.
  • The Avaya Wireless IP Telephone Solution Leveraging best-in-class technology from industry leader SpectraLink (Nasdaq: SLNK), the Avaya Wireless IP Telephone Solution is a 2.4GHz, 802.11b-compliant system that operates over an Avaya Wireless local area network (LAN) or other standards-based wireless LAN to deliver high quality IP Telephony on a wireless converged voice and data network. This premises-based IP telephony solution features six-ounce, feature-rich handsets that provide mobile workers with access to advanced features such as conference calling, call forward and transfer, multiple line appearances, and caller ID. The Avaya Wireless IP Telephone Solution consists of handsets, gateways and/or servers, with each gateway supporting up to 16 handsets and 8 simultaneous calls; up to four gateways can be utilized in a network without adding an Avaya Wireless IP Solution server, which can extend system capability to 640 handsets and 320 simultaneous calls. The Avaya Wireless Telephone Solution is priced at $729 for the handsets, $3950 for the gateways and $1995 for the servers.
  • The Avaya 2420 Digital Telephone This phone brings increased flexibility and capabilities to Avaya's digital telephone product line. This digital telephone is targeted for the mid-to-high level general end-user and can be locally configured for use in call centers. This phone is identical in appearance to the Avaya 4620 IP Telephone with new styling, a large screen character-based display and programmable on-screen call appearance/feature buttons. The Avaya 2420 Digital Telephone is priced at $625 USD List.
  • Avaya EU24 Button Expansion Module The button expansion module will increase the number of programmable feature or line appearance buttons when used with the 4620 IP or 2420 digital telephones to support call coverage applications or when more buttons are needed. The Avaya EU24 Button Expansion Module is priced at $195 USD List.
  • Avaya IP Softphone has also been enhanced with Release Four, enabling the softphone to provide control of the IP Telephone, allowing users to dial from the IP Softphone's local directory, call log, LDAP contact, and Microsoft Outlook, and talk using the IP Telephone handset. The IP Softphone R4 supports Avaya IP Telephones 4612, 4620, 4624, and 4630 in this configuration.

All Avaya IP desktop telephones deliver high audio quality with a built-in speakerphone and echo cancellation. The simplified wiring scheme connects to an IP network with a single 10/100 BaseT Ethernet LAN connection and auto-negotiation for each port. Avaya IP telephones also offer multiple power options, including support for power over Ethernet LAN technology. All Avaya IP telephones are easily upgradeable via downloadable software and firmware for investment protection.

The Avaya 4620 IP telephone, 4602 IP telephones, and the Avaya IP Softphone R.4 are globally available in August. The Avaya 2420 digital telephone and its accessories were introduced globally in June. The Avaya Wireless IP Phone Solution will be available in the U.S, Canada and CALA regions in October.
