Avaya Korea Named "Best IT Company for PR & Marcom 2001"

The Electronic Times rates highly the successful positioning of Avaya Korea through its strong PR activities and advertisement campaign

For Immediate Release: 13-Dec-2001

SEOUL, KOREA

The Korean operations of Avaya (NYSE: AV), a global leader in corporate networking solutions and services as well as an official partner of 2002 FIFA World Cup(TM) Korea Japan, has been named "Best IT Company for PR & Marcom 2001" by the Electronic Times, a leading IT trade publication in Korea.

Spun-off from Lucent Technologies last year, Avaya has successfully positioned itself as a leading provider of networking solutions and services in Korea.

Having announced a broad sports marketing and technology agreement last June with FIFA that includes sponsorship of the 2002 FIFA World Cup, Avaya has conducted active PR and marketing activities as well as a variety of events to leverage its sponsorship of the world's most popular sporting event.

Avaya organized the 1st 'Avaya Cup IT Soccer League' in Korea for those engaged in the IT industry from September 20 to October 14. The 'Avaya Cup IT Soccer League' was a huge success with 64 teams participating. At the final match, Avaya also displayed the FIFA World Cup Trophy, which will be awarded to the winning team of next year's FIFA World Cup, attracting considerable attention from media and the general public as well.

Observing the company's first anniversary on October 1, Avaya launched its Korean homepage for domestic customers and conducted an extensive advertising campaign to increase public awareness of Avaya as an official partner of 2002 FIFA World Cup(TM) Korea/Japan.

Representing Avaya's converged voice and data communication network on the soccer field, Avaya's 2002 FIFA World Cup advertisement stands high in public esteem. The concept of the 2002 FIFA World Cup advertisement campaign shows a new era of high-tech FIFA World Cup converged communications networks supported by Avaya's leading technologies that will connect 20 stadiums and two International Media Centers in Korea and Japan respectively.

Giving high marks for the positive results of its PR activities and the advertisement campaign in raising awareness of Avaya as a world-class networking company and a 2002 FIFA World Cup official partner, the Electronic Times selected Avaya Korea "Best IT Company for PR & Marcom" of the year. It's an award to an enterprise that has best communicated its identity, image and vision to the general public through PR and marketing activities as well as through advertisement.

Soo Hyun Lee, managing director of Avaya Korea, said, "It's a great honor to receive this recognition by the Electronic Times, the nation's leading IT newspaper. Avaya has endeavoured to increase its brand awareness publicly to successfully position ourselves as a leading networking company. Today's honour rewards our efforts of the past year and will spur us to work even harder to meet the expectations of our customers and BusinessPartners."

As an official partner and Official Convergence Communication Provider for 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea Japan, Avaya is supporting the communications network infrastructure for the championship matches to serve billions of football fans around the world.
