CHI-X RELIES ON AVAYA IP OFFICE FOR DYNAMIC REAL-TIME GLOBAL COLLABORATION

Stock exchange uses Avaya IP Office 500 system to deliver real-time, secure and high quality communications for clients and staff both in Australia and around the world

Chi-X Australia, the only rival to Australia’s main stock exchange, regularly has daily trading turnover of more than A$1 billion. It can now deliver more effective engagement to its clients since deploying Avaya’s IP Office 500, which was installed and implemented in just two weeks.

 

Creating a scalable, global platform

Chi-X Australia was looking for a market-leading voice and unified communications technology partner to join its virtual team of strategic vendors. Mike Aikins, Chi-X’s Chief Operations & Technology Officer, said the system supporting the company’s Australian site was no longer meeting its needs.

“The time was right to replace this system with a platform that provided technical excellence, scalability and international capabilities, with the focus being on customer experience, efficient business processes and ease-of-use for employees,” he said. Chi-X was looking for a partner that had four qualities: proven cost performance, technical excellence, local vendor commitment and great support, combined with a willingness to partner across the Chi-X group. “The local Avaya management team including managing director Tony Simonsen and Avaya partner CCNA worked with us to develop a partnership and technical solution that drove the adoption of Avaya across Chi-X offices in Japan, Hong Kong and Australia.”

Avaya offers flexible solution

The chosen solution was the Avaya IP Office 500 with Voicemail Pro, 9608 and 9641 phones, Session Border Controller and 3549GTS Ethernet Routing Switch. In addition, Chi-X opted for power-user licences that allow mobile and iPad users to access apps, instant-message each other internally, have a soft phone on their laptops and have presence information that lets them know whether another party is present when a message is sent. “We had an aggressive implementation schedule that saw the platform installed, configured and fully operational over a short two-week period,” Mr Aikins said.

Reasons for choice

With a small but highly skilled team of capital markets experts, Mr Aikins said. Chi-X needed to enable real-time, secure, high-quality and cost-effective communications services so team members could operate across the globe. “We’re looking to leverage the Avaya platform across the group, with Japan and Hong Kong Chi-X business joining the virtual network,” he said. “The platform allows close collaboration across the group and further builds upon the virtual team approach so successfully leveraged by Chi-X.”
 
There were five main reasons for choosing the system: cost performance, configuration flexibility, scalable growth, extensive multi-device support, and local technical and business support capabilities. Chi-X’s annual support costs have halved, Mr Aikins said. The system has shown it can be scaled-up easily. “The Avaya platform has shown its scalability and continued to grow with our business requirements and staffing levels,” he said. “It was vital that Avaya delivered on time and without disruption to our high-pressure, highperformance business.”
