Formed as recently as 2001, Arkadin has grown rapidly to become one of the largest collaboration service providers in the world. The company’s expansion has been aided by a close partnership with Avaya, helping it to deliver a stable and feature-rich service now used by over 25,000 customers worldwide.
 
Since the turn of the century the market for conferencing and collaboration services has exploded. According to recent figures from Wainhouse Research, the market worldwide has already reached $6bn and is growing significantly.

Arkadin is one of the true success stories in the collaboration market. Founded in France with a handful of staff a decade ago, it now employs over 1,000 people worldwide and offers local support from 50 offices in 29 countries.
 
Olivier De Puymorin, the founder and CEO of Arkadin, believes that this growth has been fuelled by both the development of its product offering and the quality of customer service that the company provides.
 
“We began as a conference specialist, helping people build better relationships in a newly globalised world,” says de Puymorin. “Now we have taken conferencing to the next stage, providing full remote collaboration through cloud based services and a complete range of products and services. Working with Avaya: a key partnership

To a large extent, the quality of Arkadin’s customer service depends on the consistent performance and functionality of the technology that underpins its products – particularly as the company expands to new territories.
 
“Our continued success is reliant on the technical quality of service we provide on a global scale,” De Puymorin explains.
 
To make this happen, Arkadin has chosen to use Avaya Meeting Exchange® Enterprise as the single worldwide platform for its core audio conferencing service. This means that all Arkadin customers have access to the broadest feature set of any conferencing solution on the market, including easy on-demand access, sophisticated operator/administrator applications, conference recording and playback, and advanced customisable reporting.
In addition, the use of Avaya Meeting Exchange has made life simple for Arkadin’s IT department. Thierry Bonhomme, Audio Product Line Director, Arkadin, explains the benefits from his perspective:

“The scalability of the product made it easy for us to migrate to IP technology,” he says. “This has helped us to reduce the cost of our infrastructure as well as operational costs, which in turn has benefited us in terms of the way we can price our services in a highly competitive market.”
 
As well as these technical benefits, Avaya supplies Arkadin with technical support that facilitates the smooth running of audio conferencing services globally. Avaya’s experts also provide Arkadin’s in-house technical team with regular training and product development updates.

Looking to the future

As Arkadin has grown, so has the variety of services it offers. Having originally offered an audio-only service, today Arkadin provides its customers with web conferencing and other multimedia services, including video.
 
According to Bonhomme, it is proving vital that the core audio service based on Avaya Meeting Exchange is able to integrate with these new services smoothly and efficiently.
 
“It’s a big advantage that the Avaya platform comes complete with API-based developer toolkits and an open architecture that we can use to customise and brand our conferencing interfaces, as well as integrate other services as they come along – be that instant messaging, presence indicators, calendars, web conferencing or video.”
 
Arkadin CEO de Puymorin adds that Avaya has been instrumental in helping Arkadin develop strategies and implementation plans for new services – and particularly values the involvement that his own in-house technical team has with Avaya’s research and development unit. In fact for de Puymorin, this goes a long way to summing up the value that the Avaya partnership brings to the Arkadin business:
 
“The Avaya development resources are substantial,” he says. “We pay close attention to the evolution of their offer, because like our own, it is moving far beyond traditional telephone conferencing.”
