Avaya Completes SDN Fx Implementation for Dubai Icon Burj Khalifa

20 Oct 2015
SANTA CLARA, Calif. and DUBAI, UAE; October 20, 2015 -- Avaya, a global leader in business communications software, systems and services, has announced the implementation of an Avaya SDN Fx networking architecture within Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. This next-generation technology infrastructure will enable guests, tenants, and IT teams to enjoy the best network quality experience.
A mixed-use tower, Burj Khalifa has residences, offices, common areas, leisure attractions, and much more. To meet tenants and visitors service-level expectations, the building requires a networking platform that is secure, flexible, scalable and robust. This is now enabled with SDN Fx, Avaya’s fabric-based networking technology for “Simplicity Everywhere.”
With Avaya SDN Fx, Burj Khalifa will also benefit from effortless and efficient network roll-out and highly-reliable service delivery and network access. Avaya’s SDN Fx enables Wi-Fi access and personal devices to be provisioned quickly, leading to better service for tenants and visitors, and more efficient network management.
Towering at more than 2,716 feet (828 meters), Burj Khalifa has a total built-up area of 5.67 million square feet, including 1.85 million sq. ft. of residential space and over 300,000 sq. ft. of prime office space. It is home to the world’s highest observation deck, At the Top, Burj Khalifa SKY.
Avaya SDN Fx, announced globally in February 2015, is making strong inroads into iconic global projects and structures. The implementation of SDN Fx at Burj Khalifa represents a significant opportunity for Avaya to align itself with innovative global icons in the UAE and around the world.

About Burj Khalifa
Described as both a ‘Vertical City’ and ‘A Living Wonder,’ Burj Khalifa, developed by Dubai-based Emaar Properties PJSC, is the world’s tallest building and described as a ‘Global Icon’ by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. At 828 metres (2,716.5 ft), the 200+ plus storey Burj Khalifa has 160 habitable levels, the most of any building in the world. Burj Khalifa is responsible for a number of world-firsts. The tower became the world’s tallest man-made structure just 1,325 days after excavation work started in January 2004.
With a total built-up area of 5.67 million square feet, Burj Khalifa features 1.85 million square feet of residential space and over 300,000 square feet of prime office space. That is in addition to the area occupied by the Armani Hotel Dubai and the Armani Residences. The tower offers luxurious recreational and leisure facilities including four swimming pools, excluding the pool in the hotel, lounges for home owners and office owners, health and wellness facilities, a public observation deck and At.mosphere, the world’s highest fine dining restaurant on Level 122.
The observation deck on level 124, At the Top, Burj Khalifa, is a must-see attraction and offers breath-taking views of the city and the surrounding emirates. At the Top, Burj Khalifa SKY, opened on October 14, 2014, has clinched the Guinness World Record for ‘Highest Observation Deck’ in the world. Connected to Burj Khalifa is The Offices, a 12-storey annex of prime office space. Over 1,000 pieces of art by prominent International and Middle Eastern artists adorn the interiors of Burj Khalifa and the surrounding Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard. Burj Khalifa is the venue for the Downtown Dubai New Year’s Eve celebration, an unprecedented spectacle featuring the world’s highest fireworks. www.burjkhalifa.ae
