Having worked with companies like SAP and Sun Microsystems, Priyadarshi Mohapatra brings to the table 17 years of industry experience. Interestingly, he is also a co-founder of Oyzterbay, a venture capital-funded jewellery chain. At present, Mohapatra is leading the operations for Avaya in India and the SAARC region. He is res-ponsible for providing strategic direction to the company’s business and positioning it as a leading business communications player. He is also responsible for strengthening its cha-nnel partner relations and driving growth in the mid-market segment. Mohapatra’s focus is on transforming Avaya into a leading provider of solutions that enable mobile engagement across multiple channels and devices. He and his team are currently close to completing a major customer experience transformation project (based on a private cloud model) with Reliance Communications. Mohapatra expects this project to lead to the most digitally enabled user experience in India’s telecom sector.

Outlining the challenges faced by operators, he says, “The existing set-up does not respond to user aspirations and demands, and the technology backbone cannot provide the business continuity, agility and resilience required to support the new telecom model. It is here that Avaya steps in and initiates organisations into the new age of collaboration with simple, intuitive solutions that help service providers achieve a superior customer experience and drive business growth.”

Over the next few years, Mohapatra says the telecom industry will be dominated by trends like social media, mobility, the cloud, the Internet of Things and bring your own device. It is already witnessing higher data usage with increa-sed access to social networking platforms and applications like Loke, Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter, particularly through mobile phones. Cloud service adoption is also on the rise among enterprises, while consumer analytics is gaining popularity among organisations.

As a professional, Mohapatra counts his in-depth knowledge of the technology landscape and partner ecosystem as his biggest strength. Talking about his leadership style, he says, “Over the years, I have come to believe that leadership is all about connecting and engaging with people in a manner that inspires them to bring out their best. I believe that a happy employee makes a happy customer.”

Mohapatra spends his spare time reading and taking quizzes. He also enjoys spending quality time with his wife and his daughter.
