Subscribe to Blogger's postsTax relief to the middle class is certainly a nice thing, but why is it news in a podcast and blog focused around 911? Rider Legislation have been used to attach issues to an important bill, such as middle class tax relief and job creation, because a veto or postponement of that bill could delay funding to important government programs or cause serious damage politically in an election year. NG911 is getting a free ride on this bill, H.R. 3630....more

Before Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone, (June 2, 1875) public safety was served by town criers. A town crier would walk the streets of a town and cry out for help in emergency situations. In the 1950's, independent telephone companies were very common in the United States. If you wanted the police, you dialed the police station. If you had a fire, you called the fire department. If you needed any emergency help, you dialed the individual you needed, or you could dial " 0" and get the operator. Then he or she would ring the persons you were calling for....more

One of the values that Next Generation 911 promises to bring to fruition, is connectivity between citizens and public safety, as well as connectivity between public safety agencies. But one of the offshoots of this massive broadband explosion, along with the proliferation of wireless technology and speeds, is exactly what Jim's white paper is about; connected devices....more

EENA is also working towards next generation emergency services with their NG 112 project. Using NG 911 as a base guideline, EENA has established an LTD working group to review the work done here in the US, and make the appropriate changes for European specific issues....more

Many people carry 'smart' devices today, We can send video, text and pictures to our friends. But what about 911? Some Apps claim to have the answer, but Public Safety has another opinion. Is this viable new technology? Or just techno-bable rhetoric that is becoming all too common with the emergence of #NG911....more

Emergency Call Handling using NG911 Additional Data
This is not new technology. This is not a new idea. This is something that's been done in the enterprise space, in some of the largest call centers in the world, for the past 10 to 15 years. It's only because we've had a 40+-year-old architecture in our nations emergency services network, and we've been handcuffed with using caller ID or ANI as our sole index to additional information, and that additional information has been limited to a Street address, that we haven't deploy these common call handling methods to public safety....more

A good risk assessment audit can't be done over the phone, nor can you click a few questions on a webpage to get the magic answer. It's going to take a professional who understands E 911 compliance a face-to-face meeting to help you determine what you're going to need. And remember, if they just come in and throw dirt on the floor, they're probably going to try to sell you vacuum cleaner....more

When you're implementing an E911 remediation project, what is the Emergency Response Location (ERL), which is the granularity you are providing to the PSAP? Also, you need to consider, the level of granularity you provide to your internal first responders or security staff. This is where people get confused and don't realize the level of granularity can be different....more

Technologically there are minimal roadblocks that stand between citizens who need help and public safety who can provide that help. . . There is another challenge, however, that might not be so easy to overcome. That challenge is the financial commitment required by the industry, the carriers, and even the enterprise, to make NG 911 a reality and not a distant dream....more

Michigan MLTS PBX E911 Update - Flying Monkeys not required
I certainly cannot condemn the Michigan Public Services Commission. After all, they did enact legislation that will address the problem of locating callers behind a corporate PBX. What I would have liked to have seen however, is immediate compliance required for new systems purchased, along with a generous waiver of five years for existing systems. ...more
