The Internet is a wonderful place at times. Right now, office workers around the world are getting a kick out of this video, judging from the number of times I've seen my Facebook contacts cross-link to it. (I'll even forgive the fact that the company in question here is using a non-Avaya conferencing solution...)
Been there. Done that.
This alone is probably the one feature of Avaya one-X® Portal that I love more than anything else... being able to see the identity of all the callers on my conference calls. Even if I'm using my deskphone or cell phone to join the call, I can use one-X Portal to show me the list of all participants, so I (and everyone else) can avoid the roll-call interruptions. One-X portal lets me sort the order that participants are displayed between alphabetical and by the order they joined the call, so I can easily see late arrivals.

And for those conference moderators who want to take a hard-line "you snooze, you lose" approach, there's also a "lock conference" feature that can completely avoid these sorts of interruptions by simply turning off access to a call a few minutes after its scheduled start time. Think of it as a "toddler time-out for tardy teammates".

If this video hits a bit close to home, try including some of these 10 Rules for Effective Conference Calls from Fast Company as part of the agenda for your next conference call (you do send out an agenda, right?).
And if that doesn't help, there's always that one-X Portal "lock conference" feature...
