Where There's Smoke...

In elementary school, we're taught lots of valuable lessons, often compressed into sound bites like "Where there's smoke, there's fire." While it may not always be true, the statement is meant to serve as a warning--if you don't take action in certain situations or under certain conditions, inevitable results will follow.

One of my peers, Guy Clinch, has been blogging on the Next Generation of E911 and what it means to enterprises, service providers, and to some extent, end users themselves. With 16 states having already enacted E911 legislation, and risk and liability becoming more of a concern in all the remaining states, it's not a question of "if we should", nor "whether we should", but rather a question of "How (quickly) can we put NG911 solutions in place?"

If you've been following these posts, I invite you to spend some time at VoiceCon with two of our DevConnect Partners: RedSky Technologies and 911 Enable, and learn more about how their NG911 solutions complement Avaya Aura and IP Office deployments.

Redsky, a Platinum DevConnect member, provides risk mitigation through automated tracking and updating of your workforce, monitoring for location changes across IP, Wifi and even TDM phones. With on-premise and hosted (SAAS) options through the RedSky E911 Manager and RedSky E911 Anywhere Hosted solutions, respectively, it's easy to meet both current mandates and future expectations for increased legislation in emergency services.

911 Enable, a Gold DevConnect member, also offers premise and hosted solutions. Their premise-based Emergency Gateway solution tracks IP phones across a nomadic workforce, tying into a full complement of E911 management capabilities including security desk routing; email, pager and cell phone alerts to emergency response personnel; automatic call recording and more. This can be complemented with their Emergency Routing Service (ERS), ensuring that emergency calls are routed to the nearest of over 6000 PSAPs connected to their hosted service, even if the PBXs and trunks serving those users have been consolidated into a small number of centralized data centers. This ensures that a remote worker, working from any number of branch offices, their home office, or even a hotel room can be routed appropriately for their current location when they place an emergency call using their corporate communication services.

Both Nick Maier (SVP, RedSky) and Lev Deich (Director, 911 Enable) will be speaking further on their solutions at VoiceCon. Make sure you plan to attend the "IPT In E911 and Crisis Situations" on Thursday, 5 November at 9am PT to learn more, and visit both RedSky (booth #901) and 911 Enable (booth #406) during the expo floor hours for in-depth demonstrations.

Looking at both RedSky and Director, 911 Enable websites I see enabled for Avaya CM. Have these partner products been tested for integration on the newest platform Avaya Aura?

The Avaya DevConnect program provides compliance testing benefits for our members, which include RedSky and 911 Enable. While there may be some delays between completion of testing and posting of DevConnect Application notes to our Avaya.com, DevConnect and Support websites, you can always find the most current information on completed tests via the DevConnect Partner Information Web Pages. Go to www.avaya.com/DevConnect or www.avaya.com/ecosystem and select "DevConnect Partners" from the DevConnect Search section.

Specifically, you can find additional information including primary contacts at each company via these links:

Redsky: https://devconnect.avaya.com/public/search/d_cprofile.jsp?search=1&i=55

911 Enable: https://devconnect.avaya.com/public/search/d_cprofile.jsp?search=1&i=4824

Hope this helps. Jon
